Towards an Integrated Theory of Mind (TIM)
This article introduces the “Integrated Theory of Mind (TIM),” an innovative model that unifies the processes of cognition, emotion, and action, centered on the subject’s lived experience. The mind’s dynamic architecture is founded on the Prognostica Mens (PM), the central mental organ whose intrinsic function is constant anticipation and verification. The PM is guided by two Meta-Functional Cardinal Principles: the Holistic Self (HS) and the Quantum Self (QS), which define the two modes of reality processing: Holistic (Unity/Fusion) and Quantum (Discretion/Segmentation).
The PM translates its intent through specific high-level Operating Systems (OSs): the Action Operating System (SOA), which is the executive manifestation of the QS, and the Communication Operating Systems (SOC), the manifestation of the HS. Incoming knowledge is structured by the process of Cognitive Morphogenesis, which synthesizes Holistic information (the “What” pathway) and Quantum information (the “Where” pathway). The entire theory manifests in three evolutionary functional realizations—Ego Agens (EA), Ego Socialis (ES), and Ego Cogitans (EC)—and is orchestrated by the search for and maintenance of Dynamic Equilibrium.
